Womenite in association with The Office of District Magistrate, North Delhi conducted Naari ki Chaupal sessions in 17 villages of North Delhi in honour of International Women’s Day celebrations. Under this initiative, several volunteers visited different villages and conducting awareness sessions of the issues of girl education and menstrual hygiene. Addressing the dire need of our society for awareness regarding women’s health and education, modules on Menstrual Hygiene and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao were being delivered to women of all age groups. Special emphasis was put on the importance of educating girls and how it will ultimately help them become independent individuals with financial security. The village visits had garnered a positive response. The women were open to discussion and have been immensely focal about their struggles and inability to achieve proper education. This ensured that they put heavy emphasis on educating their young girls so that they can become independent women in the future. Visuals aids such as diagrams, posters and documentaries were being used to interact with the audience. Screening of various short films was also part of the session. Their themes include recognising the sacrifices women make and their strength and perseverance. The goal was to highlight instances of the gender inequality in everyday life, that often goes unnoticed or overlooked. Refreshments were also distributed to everyone present. Interviewing women about their daughters showed their high ambitions and hope for them. It was overwhelming to see wide acceptance of such ideas, with women asking for these documentary links to further these morals to others.
